Washington, DCFirsts
Washington, DC was the first city in the US to pass a law requiring green building certification for both the public and private sectors.
Washington’s Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID) with 17 rain gardens, 500 bike racks and an improved tree canopy in the heart of downtown was the first BID in the world to earn LEED Platinum certification.
In 2020 the city had more LEED-certified space per capita than any state in the U.S.
